2011 Sidbury Fireworks: 5th November ‘The Gunpowder Plot’

Sidbury Bonfire and Fireworks  Committee was formed in 1997. The event used to be held at the bottom of Sidbury Manor Drive. In 2005, the 400th Anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, Sir John Cave gave his kind permission to move the event to the Manor Grounds. Sidbury Manor and the Manor’s Lakes provide a spectacular backdrop for the firework display.
Spectators have an excellent view of the display thanks to the kind permission of Alan Derryman, who is also a Sidbury Bonfire & Fireworks Committee Member, from Home Farm who allows the use of his field for the event.
The committee always try to provide good value for money, the Aerial display is designed and fired by professional pyrotechnic Ed Rhodes. The event always has a good supply of hot food cooked by local Butcher Drew & Son of Sidbury along with plenty of Mulled Wine using SBFC own recipe “ perfected “ over the years.
Over the years Rob Summers, Rodney Cross, and others along with an army of helpers construct a novel bonfire to keep the spectators warm.
Last year’s event ( 2010 ) was a combined Bonfire and Halloween Night. Sponsors were provided with “Ghoulish” cuisine provided by the Salty Monk restaurant.
Street Heat a local Samba Band and Eric the Fire-eater provided great entertainment prior to the lighting of the spectacular 22 minute firework display.
Sidbury Bonfire & Fireworks Committee is a non-profit making organization. We have donated money to The Sidmouth Lifeboat, Local Cancer Trust, Devon Crime Beat, Vranch House, Sidbury School and St Johns Ambulance amongst others.
The event is organized and carried out by a dedicated team of unpaid committee members and helpers.
