History - Present

Sidbury Bonfire and Fireworks Committee was formed in 1997 where the event was held at the bottom of Sidbury Manor Drive. Then in 2005, Sir John Cave gave his permission to move the event into the manor grounds to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot giving the firework display a spectacular backdrop of the Manor house and Lake.

The Committee

The committee of volunteers always try to provide good value for money within the event. The Aerial display is designed and fired by professional pyrotechnic Ed Rhodes. The event always has a good supply of hot food cooked by Mark Bishop, along with plenty of Mulled Wine using SBFC own recipe "perfected" over the years. For a number of years Rob Summers, Rodney Cross, along with an army of helpers construct a novel bonfire to keep the spectators warm. Spectators also have an excellent view of the display thanks to the kind permission of Alan Derryman, who is also a Sidbury Bonfire & Fireworks Committee Member, from Home Farm who allows the use of his field for the event.

Sidbury Bonfire & Fireworks Committee is a non-profit making organization. We have donated money to The Sidmouth Lifeboat, Local Cancer Trust, Devon Crime Beat, Vranch House, Sidbury School and St Johns Ambulance amongst others.
The event is organized and carried out by a dedicated team of unpaid committee members and helpers.

Sidbury Fireworks display is a great evening out for the whole family. Whilst watching the display why not tuck into a nice hog roast and a glass of mulled wine.
